> Mindfulness

Mindfulness is essentially the awareness that arises through paying attention, on purpose, in the present moment, and in non-judgement ways. It is a form of meditative practice that can bring awareness to the direct experience of your life and in doing so can help you reflect on those ways that are skilful (helpful) and unskilful (less helpful) in our day to day lives. As a practice, it can help us become aware of our automatic thought and behavioural patterns and in doing so can create a space, a moment, where we can consider if what we are thinking or doing serves us in positive ways.

Mindfulness can be practised through a range of ways that can focus on: body scan, breathing, sitting, sounds, thoughts, eating and mindful movement. Each of the practices encourages an awareness of direct experience (physical sensations, hearing, thoughts etc) and use this to help respond to discomfort in more positive ways.
