> Trigger Point Pilates:

A Trigger Point Pilates™ class combines classical Pilates moves to strengthen the core with clinical myofascial principles to help alleviate chronic pain conditions. The class is designed to release tightness, enhance functional daily movement, and restructure the body. This class is suitable for everyone from elite athletes to those rehabilitating post-surgery. Fascia restrictions occur in everyone, regardless of age, activity, or fitness levels.

What is myofascial? ‘Myo’ means muscle and ‘fascia’ means a continuous band of connective tissue wrapping around and throughout the body. Think of the transparent tissue you see when you remove the skin of a chicken; that is fascia, and our bodies are wrapped in it. This is what we are working on to release in class.

Fascia is highly sensitive as it is full of nerve cells, and every hormone in your system will affect it. Our fascia reacts to every bump, knock and bruise; in short, every physical and emotional trauma will impact the fascia. A build-up of fascia cells causes adhesions which in turn creates inflammation resulting in chronic pain. This can also result in a change in joint motion, changes to bodily functions including digestion to elimination. It can also cause headaches, arthritis including osteoarthritis and fibromyalgia.

In class, we work deeply on releasing into the deeper layers of fascia targeting the release of trigger points. Healthy fascia needs to be kept hydrated with water and movement. This allows the body tissue to change and heal.

Small equipment, such as rollers and prickle balls are used to release and realign the body which you can buy from the studio to exercise at home. Many of the exercises you can do at home to gain constant benefits.

I am an Usui trained reiki master which means I can offer reiki healing to humans and animals alike.

Reiki is a Japanese energy healing modality where gentle hand movements are used with the intention to guide the flow of healthy energy (also known as life force energy) through the body to reduce stress and promote healing. The term Reiki comes from the words ‘rei’ meaning ‘wisdom and knowledge of the entire universe’ and ‘ki’ which means ‘life force energy’ and is used to describe a natural system to help bring about an improved sense of well-being and a positive feeling of spiritual renewal.

This tradition was founded by Dr. Mikao Usui in the early 20th century and evolved as a result of his research, experience and dedication. It is a tradition that is open to any belief system and benefits may include deep relaxation and the promotion of a calm, peaceful sense of wellbeing.

There are many benefits of Reiki, and these can include:

• Grounding and balancing • Encouraging healing • Promoting relaxation • Relieving stress and anxiety • Energising the mind and the body • Assisting with pain management

However, it is important to note that Reiki treatment is not a substitute for traditional medical or psychological diagnosis and treatment but can be used to complement and enhance conventional medicine or surgery.
